UK Student Internship Work Permits allow students from outside of the EEA to take paid employment in the UK for a short period of time.
Students studying degree courses in the UK may qualify for a UK Student Internship Work Permit. An internship with a UK employer cannot be for a period longer than three months. An employer who wishes to offer an internship will need to show that internships are an established part of their hiring procedure.
An application for a UK Student Internship Work Permit will only be approved if the internship is the first with the employer.
Student Internships will only be approved where the company or organisation has a significant trading presence in the UK and in other countries.
The employer must pay the intern a salary that is similar to the amount that would be paid to a British Citizen or EEA national undertaking an internship in the same sector, or profession, in the UK.
The position offered under the UK student internship must meet a National/Scottish Vocational Qualification (N/SVQ) level 3 or above.
The student seeking the UK Student Internship will only be permitted to participate in one UK internship in the UK. The student must go through the normal recruitment procedures that a trainee would, once they have successfully completed their course.
It is necessary that the student is at a University or College overseas.
