Applicants who wish to immigrate to Canada through the Yukon Canadian Nomination Program allows candidates to come to Canada as either a skilled worker or through the Business Program, each of which has further sub categories.
Process
Candidates can immigrate to Canada as either a Skilled Worker or through the Business Program. There are some options where applicants can apply for themselves and do not require an employer to apply on their behalf.
There is no points based assessment under this scheme.
Under this stream, candidates can immigrate to Canada as entrepreneurs provided they have the necessary funds and business experience.
Candidates will need to show they are competent in either English or French. Candidates need to have visited Yukon on at least one occasion prior to submitting their application. They need to have a net worth of at least CDN$250,000, and plan to invest a minimum of CDN$150,000 in Yukon.
Finally, candidates must be able to show adequate business skills and experience in the relevant areas in order to implement the business venture.
The alternative category for the business program is designed for candidates who would like to migrate to Yukon as a professional self employed person. This stream does not entail the minimum investment which is required in the entrepreneur category.
To qualify, an applicant's chosen profession needs to be one of the professions in shortage at the province of Yukon. Applicants also need to show they have a certification or accreditation for their chosen profession. For some professions, applicants also need to be licensed by the appropriate governing body. Applicants must have visited Yukon to understand its environmental, social and economic facets.
Applicants must be able to financially support themselves and any dependants for a period of up to six months, in addition to having the financial resources to implement a comprehensive business plan. The plan will need to be provided with an application.
Similar to the Business Program, applicants who wish to migrate to Yukon under the Skilled Worker Program can do so under either the skilled worker category or the critical impact employee category.
Applicants who wish to apply under the skilled worker category will need to have a skill or trade of which there is a shortage in Yukon, and certification or accreditation relevant to their chosen profession. In some cases, a license may also be required. Finally, applicants must have sufficient command of English or French.
The critical impact employee category is an employer based scheme and involves having an employer apply for the candidate to be sponsored.
The main objective of this category is to enable Yukon businesses to employ key employees who will be able to make a valuable contribution to their company.
The employer will need to prove that the applicant would make a valuable contribution to their company and will be required to outline the details of the skills and experience put forward in the application.
