Provincial Nominee Program: Newfoundland & Labrador

Outline

Like other Provincial Nominee Programs, the Newfoundland and Labrador one is a system permitting immigration to Canada provided applicants satisfy the required criteria. The program allows successful applicants to gain permanent residence status in Canada.

The Newfoundland and Labrador scheme is different from others in that it is a candidate led process which allows individuals who intend to migrate to Canada to apply personally provided they have met the required criteria.

Process

There are three different routes by which an individual can apply under this scheme. They are as follows:

Newfoundland and Labrador PNP Occupational/Skilled Worker

To apply through this method, it is necessary that applicants have a guaranteed job offer from a company based in Newfoundland. The position must be a permanent full time job which requires skills that could not be provided by the domestic labour market.

The position must be for a job that is listed on the province's Strategic Sector List of professions and must correctly reflect the employment and wage standards in the province.

Individuals who wish to immigrate to Canada in the skilled worker category may also need to visit the province to be interviewed by the employer and Department of Innovation, Trade and Rural Development before commencing employment.

Newfoundland and Labrador Immigrant Entrepreneur

Applicants who wish to immigrate through this stream are required to either establish or purchase a business which is listed on the Newfoundland's Strategic Sector List.

Applicants will also need to prove they have at least five years experience in a senior management role or as an entrepreneur in a comparable business.

Applicants are required to have a net worth of at least CDN$450,000 of which CDN$350,000 must be in liquid assets. Candidates must also be ready to sign a performance agreement which stipulates they agree to invest a minimum of CDN$200,000.

Further, applicants will need to make a deposit of CDN$100,000 which will be retuned when all other requirements have been met.

Candidates will also be required to visit the province to explore the area and will be required to put forward an all inclusive, detailed business plan.

Newfoundland and Labrador Immigrant Partner

Applying through this stream allows a candidate to enter a partnership with up to three other immigrants with the intention to establish or purchase a business.

Applicants will need a minimum net worth of CDN\$750,000 of which CDN\$350,000 will need to be in liquid assets. Applicants will also need to visit the province before the completion of the application.
