Most HSMP holders will not be affected by radical changes to the scheme, a Home Office spokesman announced today. The announcement came after widespread criticism of the changes and the severity of the impact such changes would have on affected parties and their families. A figure of nearly 50,000 people impacted has been declared as “not unreasonable” by human rights lawyers, arguing that the retrospective legislation may be in breach of the European rules on human rights.

A representative from the body representing Britain’s skilled immigrants has argued that the government is using skilled migration categories as a scapegoat and these changes are targetting the wrong people for the wrong reasons.
