EU under pressure to speed up anti-terror, immigration laws

By Mandeep

EU ministers have been widely criticised for their role in causing delays passing through important anti terror laws. The veto system is blamed and is reported to be responsible for a long-standing deadlock.

While some British critics disagreed, others in Europe highlighted the need to harmonise EU policies.  The problem is that in some countries, reluctance to give up “home” freedoms like  rights to legislate on issues such as terror and crime, puts harmonisation plans at risk.

EU governments have now set a 2010 target for adopting common policies on terror and immigration.
