Cyprus has granted resident status to a gay Iranian asylum seeker following doubts whether EU directives were breached in a previous refusal of a claim of asylum on the basis of sexual orientation.

On Tuesday, the EU’s executive will call for EU member states to agree on improved integration schemes for immigrants, establish joint visa centres abroad and to identify and re-evaluate labour needs.
