In order to sit the test, you must book a test appointment through the UK Border Agency by creating an account.
The earliest test appointment that you shall be able to book shall be a week from the date of the booking, so please ensure that you have sufficient time to take the test before your leave to remain expires, if relevant.
How much does the Test cost?
The test currently costs £50 plus VAT but this price may be subject to review by the UK Border Agency without notice.
Test Centres
The test can only be taken at an approved test centre of which there are 60 in the UK.
When you go to the UK Border Agency website you will be able to choose the most convenient location at which to take the test.
The test centres generally cater for all level of disabilities but if you have any particular concerns, you should contact the centre before travelling to ensure that they can accommodate your specific requirements.
At the Test Centre
Once your test appointment is booked, you must travel to the relevant centre to take the test.
When you arrive at the test centre, you shall be asked to produce the identification with which you registered to take the test, as well as proof of your post code, such as a utility bill dated within the last month or a bank statement.
Please note that if you do not produce these documents, you may not be able to take the test and the fee will not be refunded.
Once the relevant identity checks have been carried out, you will then log on to a computer in order to take the test itself.
Before you commence the actual test, you shall be given an opportunity to complete a practice test.
The test supervisor shall tell you when to begin the test and, also, how long you have to complete it.
You may navigate back through the test to revise your answers. The allotted time of 45 minutes should give you ample time to review your answers before final submission.
