Once you have completed the test, you will be given your results immediately.
In the event of a Pass
If you pass the test, you shall be given a Pass Notification letter, which contains details of your test date, supervisor, centre location and a unique ID number that the UK Border Agency may use to verify your result.
You must sign the letter before you leave the test centre.
When you are preparing your documents for your Indefinite Leave to Remain or British Citizenship/Naturalisation application, you must provide the original version of the Pass Notification Letter.
Although there is no expiry date on the Pass Notification letter the UK Border Agency do recommend that you submit your application as soon as possible after taking the test.
If you lose your Pass Notification letter, the UK Border Agency will not replace it and you will have to pay to take the test again.
In the event of a Fail
If you fail the test, you will be informed at the test centre.
If you wish to re-sit the test, you shall have to wait a minimum of seven days to take the test again.
You will then need to book a new test date and time by logging into your Life in the UK account.
Alternatively, if you believe that you did not pass the test because your level of English was not high enough, you may consider attending the combined English language (ESOL) and citizenship classes at your local further education college, as detailed on the ESOL requirements page of our website.
If you fail the test and do not have time to retake it before your leave expires, you may be able to apply for further leave to remain in the UK, as opposed to Indefinite Leave to Remain, provided that you meet the necessary requirements.
