Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP), previously known as the Alberta Provincial Nominee Program (PNP), encourages immigration to Alberta.
The program is run for the Government of Alberta by the Ministry of Employment and Immigration in partnership with Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism Canada (CIMC). CIMC accelerates the process for permanent resident applications from Provincial Nominees. CIMC also makes the final decision for permanent resident applications.
The AINP supports Alberta's economic growth by encouraging economic migrants to move to the province of Alberta.
Individuals who are nominated by the Province of Alberta are entitled to apply for a permanent resident visa through CIMC as a Provincial Nominee. They can also apply for their spouse and dependent children.
Process
The process for the Alberta Provincial Nominee Program takes into consideration the applicant's skills and experience as well as an applicant's ability to adapt to life in Alberta. There is no points based skills assessment for this type of visa. There are 4 main stages of the application. They are as follows:
- An employer must complete the employer application form in order to prove that there is a need to recruit from outside the domestic workforce which will be submitted to the Alberta Employment, Immigration and Industry for assessment
- Alberta Employment, Immigration and Industry assesses the application and proposes it to the Nominee Program
- Once the application has been approved, employees wanting to migrate to Alberta can start to be recruited and job offers are made.
- Once the employee has been approved, they are entitled to apply for permanent residency in Canada.
This particular program in an employer led initiative. It is not possible for applicants to apply by themselves. Any applicant seeking to immigrate to Canada through this program must have a guaranteed job offer from an employer that has been approved in Alberta.
