The Home Office is looking into claims that UK visas were given to female immigrants in exchange for sex.
A former administrator has spoken out and revealed to a newspaper that women were permitted to remain in the UK if they had sex with the staff working at the Lunar House centre which operates in Croydon. He also states that the necessary security examinations were not undertaken appropriately.
Anthony Pamnani said that he resigned from working at the Lunar House centre after four years because he was disgusted at the conduct of others which included making fun of ugly applicants. Applicants who were deemed good looking would be given priority while other people queued for hours. The whistleblower claims his objections were ignored and that crucial security checks that were necessary for all immigrants were not done. He said that one girl had come into the office and revealed that an admin officer had come to see her at her flat and they had had sex. She was then granted indefinite leave to remain. He claims other discrepancies involved incidents such as Brazilian girls who would be granted a longer leave than their boyfriends with no reason.
Mr Pamnani claimed that in a considerable amount of cases applicant’s passports were not properly checked to confirm they had no previous convictions and were not wanted in other countries. He said it came down to simple laziness as workers only had to walk a few steps and swipe the passports through special computer readers. He claims he finally left when staff were instructed to grant leave for more applicants from Eastern Europe than from India.
Tony McNulty, Home Office Minster said that he was sure staff within the Immigration and Nationality Directorate carried out their responsibilities in a professional manner and with integrity. He went on to state that there was an established system in place for staff to raise issues they have with regard to the working systems in place within the team. Moreover, he said he did not condone that type of behaviour and that an investigation is underway.
