Private colleges to challenge Tier 4 student visa crackdown

A judge recently gave permission to private colleges to challenge the government’s recent crackdown on Tier 4 foreign students that use the immigration system to overstay in the UK. The UK Private Schools and Colleges were given the go-ahead to ask permission from the High Court to challenge the Government plans to reduce the number of Tier 4 student visas. These student visas are granted by virtue of Tier 4 of the Points Based System. The judge’s decision is good news for the private colleges as they believe that the Home Office is acting far too arbitrarily, severely and all in all, disproportionately. It is believed that the colleges do have a valid case, and although they will face a struggle with the Home Office, the fact that the Government’s stringent plans to cut student migration are being challenged is good news in itself.  It seems the courts agree with at least attempting to question the Government’s steam-roller approach to immigration, especially with regards to the education sector.
