Asylum seekers living in Australia has escaped investigation by the federal police. Confessions and admissions from asylum seekers have repeatedly not been reported by the Immigration Department.
Federal Police have received 15 allegations of war crimes, and not a single claim was received from the Immigration Department.
The concern has surfaced as Mr Al Tekriti, Saddam Hussein’s former body guard, has received permission to live in Australia. The Immigration Department had initially rejected Mr Al Tekriti’s application for refugee status, but the Administrative Appeals Tribunal reversed the decision. The decision was reversed on the basis of Mr Al Tekriti not having held a position which directly resulted in crimes against humanity.
Over thirty others have similarly been denied refugee status in Australia over the last decade, due to being suspected of having commited crimes against humanity. Some have lived in Australia freely, after having admitted to crimes such as rape, torture, murder and even acts of terrorism.
Although a number of asylum seekers refused refugee status due to have commited crimes against humanity have left Australia voluntarily, and others have either been removed or are currently in detention, but the remander are living freely in Australia.
