
The Migration Observatory at the University of Oxford have released a report (they call it a primer) about the way the Points Based System, here and abroad, assess immigrants. It looks at the criteria used to attract “the brightest and the best” and analyses whether this is an effective way of attracting the best immigrants. Their findings show that there is often a disparity between the qualifications of immigrants and the jobs they do. And they highlight some of the difficulties countries have in assessing migrants – most notably with qualifications and previous earnings.
